Jennifer (OT) has collaborated with a local fitness and lifestyle coach, Georgina (YGT Fitness and Coaching) to bring children’s workouts to your home twice a week.

These follow along at your own pace workouts address gross motor skills through repetitive activities to encourage improved posture, positioning and muscle strength.

Who is suitable for these workouts?

These workouts are suitable for young people and children who:

  • Have dyspraxia
  • Struggle to use a pencil, pen or brush and avoid tasks using fine motor skills e.g. drawing, writing
  • Become upset or distressed during activities involving fine motor skillsĀ 
  • Struggle academically due to motor skill difficulties
  • Become tired easily during motor skill tasks
  • Have difficulties with balance and co-ordination
  • Spend a long time carrying out tasks using motor skills
  • Appear to seem clumsy

What are the potential benefits of these workout?

Well other than the obvious, your child will be tired, these workouts will help develop core strength, endurance, postural stability, coordination, static and dynamic balance, speed and accuracy of movement.

And academically and emotionally there are lots of other benefits , including:

  • Improved fine motor skills, such as pencil grip
  • Improved gross motor skills, such as running
  • Increased confidence in motor skill tasks
  • Increased stamina and engagement during tasks involving motor skills
  • Improved balance and co-ordination
  • Increased enjoyment during activities using motor skills
  • Using less time to complete tasks which involve motor skills
  • Reduced frustration due to all of the above
  • Better understanding of how their own body works, and
  • through watching an adult struggle, they will discover the ability to laugh at their own mistakes and vocalise their frustrations, learning it’s okay not be be perfect at everything.
