Lisa Heywood

Headshot of Lisa HeywoodLisa joined the Thrive team in 2021 as an Advanced Occupational Therapist. She graduated as an Occupational Therapist in 2002 from Coventry University. Prior to joining the Thrive team, Lisa worked in different roles within the NHS, both with adults and children. Her most recent work has been with children and young people, primarily in CAMHS and a Neurodevelopmental team in Birmingham and Coventry. Lisa has also worked abroad in New Zealand as an Occupational Therapist and in China as a Teaching Assistant. Lisa is registered with the HCPC and is a member of the RCOT.

Lisa has a keen interest in working with children and young people with Neurodevelopmental conditions such as ASD and ADHD. Throughout her career, she has been advocating for the needs of children with these conditions in services such as CAMHS. She is also experienced in adapting approaches to meet the needs of children and young people, as well as incorporating sensory approaches within therapy. Lisa can also assess for coordination difficulties and offer advice and intervention to support the child’s engagement in everyday activities.

Lisa has extensive experience of delivering groups in a creative way that addresses the mental health needs of children, such as anxiety and emotional regulation. She has also developed and delivered parent and teacher workshops to address different needs.

Lisa completed her Sensory Integration training at Ulster University and qualified as a Sensory Integration Practitioner in 2019. Lisa has maintained her CPD by attending regular training on different approaches, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), sensory or behaviour and Personal Construct Psychology (PCP).

Lisa’s special interests are in Sensory Integration linked to emotional regulation, delivering workshops to meet the needs of all attendees, and promoting the use of sensory approaches in everyday life to support emotional regulation.

Lisa is a mum to 2 children and loves being outside. She enjoys hiking and sometimes likes a bike ride. She also loves travelling and seeing the world, learning about different cultures.
